Room was decent , staff nice and respectful. But kinda noisey by the tracks and the side view "room with a view" left a view mostly of the ugly rocky beach below and the drab looking buildings up the hill. kinda an old and rundown area but then again it is Ventura! At $* a nite from Travel Website a nicer larger room with a frontal view of the water would have been more worth the money. Probably would not stay in this hotel again anytime soon for that kinda money....

My husband and I checked into your Crown Plaza in Ventura on the beach Saturday 12/05/09 after a long day of shopping. We came to Ventura to Christmas shop and to celebrate 40 years of marriage. What was to be a really nice weekend turned into a night from h*** thanks to your hotel!!! The first room already had people in it. The second room the keys would not work. Your desk people then gave us a suite and told me not to put the door keys next to my credit cards, as if the second room was my fault. How could carrying the keys in the hotel folder do that? After dinner we found that the heat was not working in the suite. Your front desk person told me that I just didn’t know how to work it and sent up someone. The person that they sent told me that maybe I should just go to another Hotel. After Mr. Know-it-all realized that the heat did not work, my self and that person went to the front desk to get another room. It was 10:30 at night. Your front desk person couldn’t have cared less and all he would do was offer to cut my room rate. At that point I had enough and we checked out and went to another Hotel. All I wanted was the room I had paid for and a hotel staff that cares about their customers. It won’t happen again.

Bed was as hard as a concrete park bench. Smallest closest I've ever seen - about the size of your average gym locker. Good thing they provide an iron, you're going to need it. Bathroom faucet was loose and you had to fiddle with the cold side to get it to shut off, completely. Tiny balconey with no chairs, but plenty of noise (freeway, street straffic, and...TRAINS). Great view, though. Friday and Saturday are wedding party nights, evidently. At least on the 11th floor. Party-hardy until the wee hours of the morning. Hotel staff couldn't care less. Don't spend time looking for the jazz combo or musicians in the "bar" as advertised on their posters in the halls - you won't find any. Oh yeah, the bar. It's just an lobby bar. Someone decided to have a "bring-your-own-everything" home-made buffet for their wedding rehearsal dinner, one night. Left no room for paying guests. We grew up in Ventura and remember when this was a new Holiday Inn, complete with several fine eateries, cocktail lounges, and a revolving restraunt at the top (now de-activated). How sad that it has degenerated to this state. We'll stay just about anywhere else on our next visit.

Stayed here for a business function. The hotel has been remodeled since it became the Crowne Plaza, but it's only the lobby area from what I can see. I stayed in a ""suite"" which was by far the least attractive suite I have ever stayed in. The bed was absolutely horrible, and was like sleeping on a sheet of plywood. The front desk staff was nice enough to knock down the ""suite"" price to the standard room price, but I don't even think that was worth it.
